Ty entered into real estate sales in 1977 with Fireside Realty while employed with Weatherhead-Dana Corp. He later then joined the Orizon Real Estate in 1987 and earned GRI designation in 1989, then in 1990 received his CRS designation. He was the Indiana honor realtor 1988 - 1991, Whitley County Board of Realtors VP in 1990 and President in 1991. Held state Board of Realtor positions on the RPAC committee and continuing Education Committee. Ty was instrumental in getting Continuing Education implemented in Indiana.
